The Leadership journey for a number of us began at the end of last year when we went to Adventure Southland. Remember this? Leadership is teamwork. Encourage each other. Attitude counts. In Term 1 some of us met with Ms Brown as we looked at the skills to be Always A Leader. Remember this? • Who am I? – self image • How I live – integrity • Getting along with others – belonging • How I cope – self confidence • The Choices I Make – responsibility and decision-making • Planning and leading a sports event for group of junior students
In Term 2 some of us went to Dunedin to the National Young Leaders Day. Remember this?
In Term 3 we spent time sharing our successes as leaders in our schools, homes and communities and resolving a few issues we had met along the way. Remember this? • Reaching out • Roundabout conversation • What does it mean to you to be a leader? • Why has your school sent you today? • What leadership activities have you been involved in this year? • What inspires and motivates you? • Think of a role model. What qualities do you admire? How can you develop these qualities? • How do you handle it when you’ve done something wrong? • What gifts and talents do you bring to your role as leader?
Then we created a vision board to inspire us for the remainder of the year and potentially for life. A vision board is a collage of pictures, phrases, words or items that represent you and your goals. Vision boards are for inspiration. Think of it as a vision for the future if you will. These goals can be short term or long term. By seeing these images on a daily basis, you will keep the motivation to reach those goals and desires. Our vision boards had school and personal goals, ways to continue our leadership skills, quotes that inspire us, words, images, pictures, drawings that represent us.
There are many instances in everyday life where we have the opportunity to show leadership. • In school we show leadership skills in how we participate in class and activities. • At home, it’s in the decisions we make and in taking responsibility for our actions show leadership. • In our communities as we understand our own strengths and weaknesses and take on new challenges that’s part of what makes a good leader.
